Hello, my name is Chris Donoghue, and I am your 2026 UCLS chair. I have an incredible wife of 15 years (Brooke), two awesome kiddos (ages 11 and 6)and a doodle dog (Mumford). If you can’t get ahold of me, we are most likely at Disneyland or sipping a soda with our feet in the sand.

I have been serving in the UCLS for nearly a decade as Salt Lake Chapter vice president, Salt Lake Chapter president, Education Committee chair, UCLS chair elect and now UCLS chair. I have met new friends, been educated and been given experiences I could have only received while being involved in the UCLS.

My love of the survey profession started when my mom introduced me to Walt Cunningham at Rocky Mountain Transit and Laser, where I was working at the time. Walt set me up with a path through Salt Lake Community College, where I graduated in 2010 and ultimately became a PLS in 2012.

I am a career learner and take every chance to meet new people and hear about their practices and procedures. I have always told my office that the moment you think you know everything is the moment you should retire because this is a profession where you should constantly be looking for an opportunity to learn.

I started my career staking powerlines, substations, rights of way and property boundaries across the Western United States with Electrical Consultants Inc., which today is still one of the most fun jobs I’ve had. I moved from ECI to Bountiful City, where I was their surveyor/inspector for two years before accepting a job in the Salt Lake City survey office. In 2019, I became the Salt Lake City surveyor, where I held that position until 2025, when I moved over to Salt Lake County to be the chief deputy county surveyor.

I am excited to represent you as the 2026 UCLS chair, and I look forward to the steps we will take together to better the surveying profession.
